October 15th, 2013--- November 19th through the 23rd, Esoterotica, Original Erotic Readings by Local Writers, invites audiences to go “Beyond Desire” as part of the 2014 New Orleans Fringe Festival. Everyone wants connection, understanding, passion, trust. Through honest, sensual spoken word eight local poet-provocateurs expose our needs and nuances in all their glorious variety and overarching similarity. With every intimacy, no matter our race, gender, or sexuality we all share the same excitement, hope, complexity, fear and heartache when we take a lover’s hand in ours and dare to go- Beyond Desire.
“Beyond Desire” is collaboratively written and performed spoken word poetry and lyrical imagery which charts the shared experience of the intense and intimate first three months in a couple’s relationship. Employing minimal staging, eight performer-poets from a diverse range of ethnicities and proclivities seamlessly flow in and out of, but always continue the ‘conversation.’ Follow that first immediate spark, through the gradual forming of trust and intimacy, then into that moment when the first appearance of minor cracks can become an impassable gulf unless we acknowledge the only way to continue is together. As the performers revolve and the story progresses the audience is shown that regardless of gender, age, ethnicity or orientation the parallels in what unites and tears us apart are universal threads that also tie us together. Sexuality, sensuality, emotions, needs, these things can feel incredibly unique, but they are also inescapably familiar and undeniably human.
Saturday, November 22nd’s 9pm performance will be interpreted for the deaf.
Esoterotica, Original Erotic Readings by Local Writers, is a revolving cast of local, New Orleans area literary provocateurs performing their original erotica alternate Wednesdays, at the AllWays Lounge for just over three years. We will delight your imagination and provoke your desires with sexy spoken word, perverse poetry, and sensualist soliloquies in a variety of styles for your variety of persuasions. We have published two anthologies, Desire and Enflame, as well as CD companions for both. For last year’s New Orleans Fringe Festival we collaboratively wrote, performed and produced the sold out show “Pervspectives” as a BYOV, The AllWays Lounge.
